Middle School Introduction to Engineering Systems (MITES)

mitesaMITES is a 6 day residential camp for middle school students.  The camp provides students with a college-like experience.  The students live in the dorms, eat in the food courts, attend two engineering classes that teach fundamentals of engineering and the design process, and social activities.  The engineering design process is taught by CURENT. The design process is taught by doing a hands-on project related to the power grid.  Over the course of sixteen hours the students construct a model home, wire the home with multiple lights, create transmission towers, build a wind turbine, and construct a solar array.
The topics covered in the MITES camp include:

  • Future challenges that need solvingMITES8_(DSC_0012)
