Summary: This activity has students making their own customized light by deconstructing a flashlight.
Key Concepts: Circuits, powering a light or buzzer
Student Involvement: Students will build their own circuit from the inside parts of flashlight to light an LED or sound a buzzer.
Engineering Roles: Electrical engineering
Real World Connections: Understanding how a circuit works
Materials: Inside of a flashlight: battery connectors, batteries and wires. An LED or buzzer and electrical tape
Setup: Tape the battery to a platform and set aside the battery connectors, wires, LED or buzzer. Have the student connect the circuit in order to light the LED or sound the buzzer.
Suggestions: Try building a squishy circuit first with conductive dough.
